A client looks at you and says…

“I think I'm addicted to porn.”
“My wife found my browser history.”
“I can't stay present during sex anymore.”

Now what? Do you challenge the addiction label — or support it? Recommend abstinence? Explore trauma? Talk about dopamine? Address the relationship?

Many clinicians feel caught between outdated addiction models and minimizing concerns altogether. Neither approach serves the client.

Most graduate programs never covered this

Most therapists were never trained for this conversation

The PORN Model™ offers another path — grounded in curiosity instead of judgment, evidence instead of opinion, clinical formulation instead of labels.

Curiosity instead of judgment
Evidence instead of opinion
Clinical formulation instead of labels

What if I told you this training will change how you think about pornography use?

01.
Ask a better question

Stop asking “how do I get my client to stop?” and start asking “what function is this behavior serving?”

02.
See the symptom

Porn is rarely the whole problem. Underneath is often anxiety, loneliness, shame, trauma, or disconnection.

03.
Understand the function

Emotional regulation, performance pressure, masculinity expectations — learn what the behavior is doing for the client.

04.
Treat effectively

When you understand the function, treatment becomes dramatically more effective.

what exactly is in this training?

Glad you asked. Here is what you get.

What you're actually looking at

Differentiate

Not all pornography use is a clinical problem. Learn to distinguish what you're actually looking at before you decide how to treat it.

You will learn these main points
Intentional use — chosen, values-consistent, no impairment
Habitual use — automatic, cue-driven, on autopilot
Problematic Pornography Use (PPU) — distress and functional impact
Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) — the clinical diagnosis
Know what you’re actually looking at
The mechanisms that keep clients stuck
Why clients get stuck

Understand

The mechanisms that keep clients stuck — and what the research actually says about each one.

You will learn these main points
Shame & secrecy — why they keep clients stuck and fuel the cycle
Moral incongruence — when values and behavior collide
Reinforcement learning & cue reactivity — the behavioral loop
Emotional regulation, masculinity & sexual identity
What to ask, and in what order

Assess

A practical assessment framework — so you always know what questions to ask, and in what order.

You will learn these main points
Pattern recognition and the function of the behavior
Emotional drivers and loss of control
Relationship impact
Differential diagnosis
Always know what to ask next
Tools you can use in session this week
What to do in session

This IS for you if

You're a mental health counselor, social worker, MFT, psychologist, or sex therapist
You're a graduate student, medical, psychiatric, or addiction professional
You work in private practice, community mental health, hospitals, college counseling, or integrated care
Your clients talk about pornography — or would, if you knew how to ask

This is NOT for you if

You're looking for another “porn addiction” course
You want an anti-porn, shame-based, or morally driven approach
You'd rather label every client than formulate what's actually happening

Instead, this is a sex-positive, evidence-informed framework that respects client autonomy while addressing genuine clinical impairment. Your clients deserve nuance. You deserve better clinical tools.
